Hi, I’m Brooke! I’m a storyteller, spiritual director, creative, contemplative, recovering know-it-all, and unrepentant bookworm. I love big questions, rambling answers, and glimpses of God at work within and among God’s people. native Texan. Baylor grad. Explorer. adventurer. Wonderer and wanderer.
in this space I offer one-with-one spiritual direction, group spiritual direction, and creative prayer & practice workshops, as well as my own writing.
I’m so glad you’re here.
One-with-one spiritual direction.
Spiritual: for the sake of a generous orthodoxy, let’s allow “spiritual” to encompass any of the many ways we might connect with the divine, each other, the created world, and ourselves.
direction: not so much turn by turn instructions to a specific destination and more like a compass bearing pointing us in a general way of our destination.
spiritual direction: the sacred practice of companioning others as they listen to the holy spirit and to the deepest parts of themselves for the sake of growing a deeper connection with God, humanity, creation, and self.
Spiritual director: one who companions, holding sacred space for the most tender places and the gentlest whispers, listening without judgement or agenda, and with no need to fix, save, advise, or correct.

Creative Prayer & Practice.
tradition with a twist
integrating the rich wisdom centuries-old practices like lectio divina, breath prayer, and praying with the labyrinth, with fresh, unconventional practices like reading fiction for the liturgical seasons, closing doors gently, and wearing better pants.
transformational
we can learn a great deal from books, workshops, sermons, and gurus but transformation begins as we put our faith into practice.
small groups
we need each other. we’re better together. our transformation is deeper and longer-lasting when we learn, practice, and share in community.
simple
instruction on prayer is often confusing or even contradictory. a sustainable practice starts small and simply.
Our stories are sacred.
“My story is important not because it is mine, God knows, but because if I tell it anything like right, the chances are you will recognize that in many ways it is also yours.”
-Frederick Buechner, telling secrets
words have power. our stories matter. this is, perhaps, for me, the most fundamental truth. Our Creator God spoke the world into being. Our friend Jesus told people stories. our sacred book is not a set of rules but a series of stories.
the greatest honor of my life is to bear witness to the stories of others and to bear witness to my own stories as I share them with you.
